The new Transporter T6.1

Over Six generations, from the split – screen T1 to the refined and efficient T6, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has sold nearly twelve million units worldwide. Now the product line is getting its latest update. The Transporter T6.1

Exterior Highlights -

The T6.1 features a re-designed front end, refreshing the vehicle’s appearance. High-intensity H7 twin-halogen headlights and daytime running lights are included, as are new LED rear lights (trim dependent). The T6.1 also has new-look alloy wheels to complete the stylish exterior.

1. H7 twin-halogen headlights (now standard) replace H4 lights; optional LED headlights have a new design

2. New LED rear lights (trims to be confirmed)

3. Re-designed front bumper and radiator grille. Includes a larger support frame behind the bumper to reduce vibrations of the front radar control unit, thereby improving accuracy. The front end is also easier to remove, improving the total cost of ownership

4. Optional rear-view camera for rear wing doors

5. New alloy wheel designs and new colours (details to be confirmed)

6. Model designation badges on vehicle sides, near the headlights

Interior highlights -

Building on the refined T6, the T6.1 is designed with driver comfort in mind. There’s a significant improvement in standard equipment offered and many comfortable extras that boost the car-like driving experience. A range of seating options includes easily adjusted individual seats and electric four-way lumbar support for optimum driver comfort.

2. New MIB3 infotainment systems with integrated eSIM card for constant online connectivity

3. Comprehensive range of driver assistance systems

4. New locking functions for vans with a bulkhead. 'Postman mode' locks the luggage compartment separately from the cab; 'Workshop mode' locks the cab separately from the luggage compartment

5. Electronically controlled door locks; there's a button and LED in each door instead of a locking pin

6. New MQB steering wheel

7. Type C USB ports: two in the cab as standard plus two optional ports in the C pillar (California, Caravelle and shuttle) for passengers

8. Storage options – upper glovebox, folding ruler tray, lockable lower glovebox (cooled by Climatronic controls) and two cup holders

9. Front door trim changes include a built-in speaker and lower storage compartment split into two (one large enough to hold a 1.5-litre bottle)

10. Sliding window – squeeze the handle vertically to open and close the window

11. LED lighting throughout, including cargo area

12. Optional ‘Comfort’ telephone interface with inductive charging (standard on Caravelle Executive)

13. Optional function control unit for converters, with three or six keys for different conversion applications
